It’s estimated about 80% of the population suffers from acne at some point in their life.
Acne affects people of all ages and different skin types. The number of treatments available is similarly diverse. At Elysium Skin & Laser, we offer a wide range of treatments and products to renew your complexion. The best approach is to begin treatment soon after it appears to prevent permanent scarring. Choosing the right treatment depends on skin type, cause of breakouts, and the level of correction required.
What causes acne?
Acne is your body’s response to clogged hair follicles. Your hair follicles are also connected to your skin’s oil glands and allow oil, dead skin cells, bacteria, and other microscopic particles to exit your skin.
When those follicles become clogged, nothing can exit – leading to the disruption of healthy skin cells. Your body responds with inflammation, which causes the red spots associated with acne. Treatments are necessary to control the condition and prevent chronic inflammation and scarring.
Several factors can aggravate or trigger an acne outbreak, including:
- Hormonal fluctuations
- Excessive stress
- Dietary choices
- Certain medications
The traditional approach to acne treatment includes topical and systemic antibiotics, and topicals such as benzoyl peroxide, salicylic acid, and retinoids. Now, newer methods have also been developed to treat acne which includes the use of lasers.
Laser treatments for acne?
Elysium Skin & Laser offers the GentleMax Pro® laser, which provides great results in men and women with ACTIVE acne. It works by delivering individual pulses of light deep into your skin’s layers. The laser is designed to target acne’s root cause, the overactive function of the sebaceous gland. The thermal effect on both the upper dermis and the sebaceous gland suppresses sebum production and reduces bacteria growth, resulting in smoother, less irritated skin with reduced acne breakouts.
If acne scarring exists, advanced treatments with Candela’s eTwo® Sublative™ or Microneedling with or without PRP (platelet-rich plasma) work wonders on skin rejuvenation and scar elimination.
