Crepey Skin
Crepey skin, sometimes referred to as “elephant skin”, is when the skin develops a crepe-like, crinkly texture. As the body slows down the production of elastin, collagen, hyaluronic acid, and sebum, its texture begins to change, leading to dry and thinning skin with less laxity. These types of wrinkles are no longer able to stretch and contract, causing them to sag and give the skin a crinkly texture.
The most common places to find crepey skin include the face, neck (décolleté), arms, and hands. Although age plays a large role in the development of these wrinkles, it is not the sole culprit. Other common causes include sudden changes in weight, sun exposure, smoking, side-sleeping, and gravity.
Thankfully, with today’s advanced treatments and technologies, there are multiple proven ways to minimize and treat this condition. Available options include the Gentle Max Pro® laser, Sublime™ Skin Tightening, Sublative™ Skin Rejuvenation, and Microneedling (with or without PRP). In addition, any of these treatments can be combined with dermal fillers and BOTOX®/Dysport® to help you achieve a fuller, more youthful look. By using dermal fillers, we can plump the skin’s texture while neurotoxins such as BOTOX®/Dysport® work to relax the overactive muscles that cause wrinkles. Other less aggressive treatments, such as anti-aging facials and topical products, can also help reduce the appearance of crepey skin.
