Microneedling
They say that beauty is only skin deep. The truth, however, is that our beauty is affected by what's actually underneath. When the building blocks necessary for maintaining youth, healing, and anti-aging are not being naturally produced by the body, uneven skin tone and texture develops. The revolutionary Microneedling treatment provides patients with exceptional results by triggering their natural production of collagen and elastin to help restore their healthy, youthful-looking skin.
What Is Microneedling?
When used by medical professionals, Microneedling has been approved by the FDA as a safe and effective treatment to rejuvenate the skin. It is minimally-invasive and chemical-free! By using tiny needles to create small micro-channels in the skin, this treatment will stimulate the body to produce new collagen and release more of the body’s natural growth factors. During a session, the Microneedling device is gently pressed against the skin while simultaneously gliding in one direction until the entire treatment area has been covered. During this process, the skin will generate new collagen and elastin which gives the skin firmness and youthful elasticity.
The micro-channels created during a session will allow topical molecules that normally cannot penetrate the skin to pass through and provide nutrients, promoting rapid rejuvenation. Various types of topical molecules can be used during a Microneedling treatment and may include the use of platelet-rich plasma (PRP), hyaluronic acid (HA), or copper peptide. If PRP is used, a simple blood draw is completed prior to your treatment so the blood can be spun down into its separate components. The PRP, which contains platelets (clotting cells) and growth factors to amplify the healing process, will then be used during the session so it passes through the micro-channels created in the skin. As a result, remodeling of tissue occurs and the new collagen and elastin begin to develop, returning the tissue to a healthier, younger state. A National Institutes of Health study found that Microneedling, when used as a treatment for acne atrophic facial scars, was more effective when used with PRP.
Is Microneedling Right For You?
Benefits of Microneedling include its minimally-invasive nature and ability to treat any skin type. It is helpful for both men and women as a treatment for acne scarring, anti-aging, reducing the appearance of surgical scars, obtaining smoother skin, reducing the appearance of pore size, skin tightening, and reversing uneven skin tones.
Microneedling is considered to be one of the easiest and most effective ways to restore younger-looking skin.
Results In As Little As One Treatment
The results are often dramatic, and many patients see an immediate difference after only one treatment. It is, however, recommended that you receive three to five treatments, four to six weeks apart, to obtain optimal results. Clinical trial results have shown that 100% of Microneedling participants saw significant improvement in skin laxity and texture and 73% saw an improvement in fine lines and wrinkles. Typical results include improved skin tone, texture, and firmness, as well as a reduction in scars, pore size, and fine lines.
Pain-Free, Worry-Free Treatment
Most patients tolerate the procedure very well, although we recognize that some treatment areas are more sensitive than others. To a majority of patients, the treatment feels like rubbing light sandpaper across the skin. To help prevent discomfort, a topical numbing cream will be applied to the area being treated prior to the session. Treatment time varies, but can typically be completed in one hour with little downtime after the procedure. Side effects are usually mild and may include temporary redness, itching, soreness, swelling, and skin peeling, which may last three to ten days following the procedure. Normal activities can typically be resumed the next day post-treatment. It is recommended to avoid active skincare products containing hydroquinone, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid until skin peeling has resolved.
